Peripheral pathogenicity of ACVr HSV-1 clones and the parent HSV-1 TAS in mice. Mice were infected with each ACVr HSV-1 clone at the dose of 1.0 × 106 PFU / mouse through corneal route (one eye). This study was conducted twice independently [Experiment 1 (a) and Experiment 2 (b)]. Severity levels of dermatitis (upper panels) and keratitis (lower panels) were measured by using the scoring system introduced. All the mice inoculated with TAS or CL19 died within 7 days post infection
