Interferon-gamma and tumor necrosis factor production from BALB/c mice uninfected or infected with VACV-BR. Groups of mice (n = 7) were inoculated with PBS or 106 PFU of PSTV, GP1V or VACV-WR by the intranasal route. The percentage of T lymphocytes CD4 + expressing IFN-γ (A) and TNF-α (C) or CD8 + expressing IFN-γ (B) and TNF-α (D) was determined 7 days post infection by flow cytometry. For that, spleen cells were cultured in the presence of 104 PFU of UV-inactivated VACV-WR (black points) or mock-treated with medium (gray points) and were labeled with mouse anti-IFN-γ and anti-TNF-α antibodies. The error bars indicate the standard deviations. Significance variations were calculated using the One-way ANOVA post hoc Bonferroni with statistical significance: *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001, ****p < 0.0001. During the experiment some animals were lost (The local Committee of Ethics for Animal Experimentation does not allow the replacement of animals to compensate for this loss)
