Experimental setup. Susceptibility to salmonid alphavirus subtype 3 (SAV3) of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) 2 weeks (Phase-A) or 9 weeks (Phase-B) post seawater- transfer (wpt). Triplicate tanks of shedder fish were intramuscularly (i.m.) injected with SAV3 approx. 1 week before the day of experimental challenges in order to obtain seawater containing SAV3 for BI challenge. Three treatments, control (CT), i.m. injection (IM) and bath immersion (BI) were performed in triplicate tanks. Arrows indicate the time of experimental SAV3 infection challenges
