Survival of immunized mice from lethal dose challenge of H1N1 virus. Groups of 10 mice were immunized IM with the recombinant vaccines (striped lines) or with the pVAX1 vector control (solid line). The schedule of administration was 2 times with a 3-week interval, and the challenge with 10 LD50 of influenza virus (A/New Caledonia/20/99 (H1N1)) was given 2 weeks after the boost. A significant difference (P < 0.05) in survival was observed between multi-epitope group pV-H3-EHA-H1 (100%) and pV-H3 (20%), but no significant difference was found compared to the pV-H1HA1 (90%) and pV-H3-H1 (80%) groups (P > 0.05).
