Poliovirus infection fails to induce a type I interferon response in HEC-1B cells. Total RNA extracted from uninfected, poliovirus-infected or poly(I:C) treated cells at the indicated times post-infection was analyzed by qRT-PCR with primers for both IFN-β and β-actin mRNA. The amount of IFN-β mRNA was normalized to the amount of β-actin mRNA. The fold induction of IFN-β mRNA relative to uninfected controls is shown. Error bars indicate the standard error of the results from triplicate wells. hpi: hours post infection
