The beginning of the βC1 gene is indicated by the start codon (ATG; highlighted in pink) and the end by the stop codon (indicated with an asterisk). The numbers of cDNA clones sequenced for each end are indicated in brackets. The putative promoter TATA element is highlighted in purple and polyadenylation signal in yellow. The position of independent RACE clone ends mapping to the 5′ termini are indicated by arrows with coordinates and the 3′ termini by a black triangles. Nucleotide numbering is according to [21].
