From: Chicken interferon alpha pretreatment reduces virus replication of pandemic H1N1 and H5N9 avian influenza viruses in lung cell cultures from different avian species

Recombinant ChIFN-α inhibits pH1N1 and H5N9 virus nuclear protein expression. Primary chicken, turkey, and duck lung cells were pretreated with or without rChIFN-α (1000 U/ml) for 18 h. Monolayers were infected with either H1N1 or H5N9 avian influenza virus (MOI = 0.1) for 1 h, and replaced with fresh media. After 24 hours, cells were fixed and viral antigens were reacted with mouse-derived monoclonal antibody (P13C11) specific for type A influenza virus nucleoprotein followed by detection with Texas Red-labeled goat anti-mouse IgG antibody.
