From: Hepatitis C virus core protein induces apoptosis-like caspase independent cell death
HCV core protein induced apoptosis could not be completely inhibited by a broad spectrum of protease inhibitors. 1 × 105 UC cells/ml were cultured for the indicated times (A, B) in the presence or absence of Tet to induce specific protein expression. The protease inhibitors were added at day 0: cathepsin inhibitor Ca-074 30 μM, and calpain inhibitor II 10 μM. Induction of apoptosis was assessed by propidium iodide staining of hypodiploid apoptotic nuclei and flow cytometry. The mean values and standard deviation of triplicate cultures are given.
