Schematic representation of the membrane topology of the proteins and their cleavage by host (red and blue arrows) or viral (black arrows) proteases. The 11 kb genome of Dengue is translated into a single polypeptide and this polyprotein traverses the ER membrane at several positions. prM, E, NS1 and a part of NS4A and NS4B are thought to localise to the ER lumen via hydrophobic signal sequences whereas the remaining proteins are thought to be localized on the cytoplasmic side of the ER membrane.
