Replication of HIV-1 subtype C env V3–V5 region chimeras in primary blood monocyte-derived macrophages (MDM). MDM (0.5 × 10⁶ cells/well) were infected with equal amounts (RT counts) of subtype C env V3–V5 region chimeras, primary subtype B isolates, primary subtype C isolates and HIV-1_BaL. Cells were fed every 3 days with appropriate medium and the virus production was measured in the culture supernatant by RT assay. The data are presented as cpm/ml ± SD on triplicate experiments and are based on MDM from five different donors.
