Mapping the protective epitope in A33. Mortality (A) and morbidity (B) in mice vaccinated with various A33 constructs. BALB/c mice were vaccinated with 1E + 7 pfu of Sindbis viruses expressing the various A33 proteins or with a control Sindbis pTE as indicated. 14 days later the mice were challenged by i.n. instillation with VACV-WR (4E + 5 pfu corresponding to 20 LD50). (n = 5 per group). Error bars represent standard errors of the mean (SEM).
