Coronaviruses: emerging and re-emerging pathogens in humans and animals

© Jasper Fuk-Woo Chan and Susanna Kar-Pui Lau

Virology Journal is now accepting manuscript submissions to be considered for publication in a thematic series on Coronaviruses: emerging and re-emerging pathogens in humans and animals. Edited by Susanna Kar-Pui Lau (The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong), the collection will accept Research and Review manuscript submissions, and will also include commissioned topical reviews, written by leaders in the field.

Some of the coronavirus infections raise very serious problems in the past 2 decades, such as the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak in 2003, and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) which has caused millions of deaths in piglets worldwide. More recently, we are threatened by the outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) which has spread to various countries including South Korea.

A thematic series to explore these emerging and re-emerging diseases will be a timely addition to the academic literature. The series will cover many aspects of the coronaviruses, including (but not limited to) the origin, molecular epidemiology, transmission, diagnostics of coronaviruses, and will provide updates on the situation of MERS infection in South Korea.

The deadline for submissions is June 30th 2016. To submit your manuscript, please use our online submission system, and indicate in your covering letter that you would like the manuscript to be considered for the ‘Coronaviruses: emerging and re-emerging pathogens in humans and animals’ thematic series. If you would like to enquire about the suitability of a manuscript for consideration, please email a pre-submission enquiry to virologyjournal@biomedcentral.com.
